Shopping for a Strapless Heart Rate Monitor
If you watch closely, you’ll see that most exercises enthusiasts are using strapless heart rate monitors when working out. This is because this little gizmo basically gives you information about your progress in the routine. As the name suggests, it monitors your heart rate and sometimes may even go further. The length of time you have been working out under the heart rate zone as well as the amount of calories you have burned are only some of the things that a strapless heart rate monitor will show you. However, one strapless heart rate monitor isn’t the same as another. When choosing a strapless heart rate monitor, you will have to go over a few things. Budget aside, here are some of the things you might want to think about.
Function
Are you a novice in the exercise field or an athlete in training? The strapless heart monitor you use will have to fit your needs. Novices will have to start slow, meaning you’ll be targeting your heart rate. For the athletes, they would want more since they’ll be working on maintaining a particular target heart rate zone. Thus, you have ones that would tell you exactly how long you’ve been going inside your target zone. However, if you’re new in the field, then I suggest that you first visit a physician for check up. Those who aim to lose weight should go for a strapless heart rate monitor that shows the amount of calorie burned. Also, there are ones that offer multiple functions for those who target overall health.
User-friendly
If you’re one of those people who is not really techno-friendly or perhaps you don’t want to be bothered with technicalities during workout, then you’re looking for an easy-to-use strapless heart rate monitor. You’ll find that the gadgets that have the least functions will be the ones easy to manipulate. Hence, if your gizmo gives you your heart rate, calories burned, heart target zone, etc, then expect something that would require you to push more than one button. And for those who want to increase their efficiency, try looking for strapless heart rate monitors that have bigger buttons for added accuracy.
Display
Reading the display on your strapless heart monitor can be a problem when working out, to minimize this, target models that can give you bold readings. This way, you won’t have to shift priorities, letting you continue on your exercise effortlessly.
Another thing you might take into consideration is the style of the gadget. Although fashion is not at the top of your list when working out, you don’t want a big bulky heart rate monitor that would probably ruin your exercise routine. There are different models that are designed as watches, rings or stopwatches. Choose one that you think would suit you best. Some popular brands include the Mio Heart Rate Monitor, Reebok and Timex.
A heart rate monitor is fast becoming an exercise “must-have”. More so now that strapless models have been invented.
I suggest you go through different reviews before settling for one. However, keep in mind the abovementioned factors and add in a few of your own for a full purchase satisfaction.
How To Pimp Up Your Workouts
Boredom can be a real exercise killer. Instead of setting aside time to do exercise, do the opposite by squeezing exercise into what you’re already doing. Here are some tips for pimping up your workouts.
Resistance Bands
Keep a set of Bodylastics resistance bands next to your couch or recliner while you watch TV. During commercial break get up and do some reps. Out of a 1-hour show, about 17 minutes of it is commercials. By the time a show is over, you’ll have worked out your entire body. Each set comes with a manual of over 140 top gym exercises. Plus, you can get the optional circuit training DVD. Hook up a portable DVD player or laptop with the DVD queued up. When the commercial comes on, spark up the DVD and start working out.
Treadmill, Elliptical, Stationary Bike
If you’re doing work on your laptop, strap it onto a treadmill, elliptical, or stationary bike with a SurfShelf. It allows you to use a laptop or portable DVD player on any other piece of exercise equipment that has a console. I use it to catch up on old episodes of Lost and NCIS. I also like to read all the e-book downloads I have. When your concentration is focused on the laptop, you forget you’re walking. Before you know it you’ve already gone a mile or more.
Dumbells
Just like keeping some exercise bands close at hand while watching TV, you can do the same thing with dumbbells to get some resistance exercise. You can go with a single set of dumbbells or the super cool adjustable SelectTech™ ones from Bowflex®. With just the turn of a dial you can automatically change the resistance without fiddling around with weight plates.
Free Online Exercise
As of November 30, 2009, Blake Kassel, the creator and owner of the Bodylastics resistance bands, is conducting live resistance bands workouts online…for free. He could easily turn it into a members only site and charge an access fee, but he’s not. In fact, while I’m sitting here typing this, he’s online right now. Man, what a workout! The site will soon have live online workout programs for women, teens, and I can’t wait to see this one, a show for the kids on Saturday and Sunday mornings. If you miss any of the shows, they’ll be recorded so you can watch them at a later time. What a value!
Oh, the weather outside is frightful…

…but my SurfShelf is so delightful.
I am the biggest wuss when it comes to being out in the cold. That may sound a little strange coming from someone who grew up in Montana. As a kid my brothers and I enjoyed ice skating, sledding, and our favorite winter pastime, damming up the melt water running down the hill behind our house. We’d build massive snow damns and wait for the water to fill them up. When it reached the top we’d bust open the damn and watch the river of water rush down the street. Sometimes we didn’t bust the damns up enough and they froze, hi-centering cars trying to drive through the alley. I’m sure the neighbors hated us.
But now that I live in a sunny part of California, I’d die if I had to endure a Montana winter. It was bad enough the last few nights dipping into the 20’s. I can hear some of you laughing and saying, “You think 20 is cold?” I know, I know. My very last Montana winter dipped down to -40 in 1975.
So here I am sitting in front of the computer like I do all the ding dong day. I working on my blogs and thinking to myself, I really, REALLY need to get out and walk. But, it’s 45 out and that’s just way too cold for me. So I printed out a techy 14-page document I wanted to read and headed out to the other room to read on the treadmill.
That didn’t work out so hot. I was holding the report in my hand and couldn’t keep it still enough to read. So I put my SurfShelf in place and laid the document on it. Normally, the SurfShelf is intended to be a laptop or portable DVD holder, but it worked just fine for reading. Before I knew it, 23 minutes had gone by and thats 23 minutes worth of exercise I wouldn’t have done if it wasn’t for my SurfShelf.
If you have a treadmill or any other piece of exercise equipment that has console on it, get yourself a SurfShelf and get some work done while you walk.
