Often people intend to buy a treadmill but are unsure of which one to choose. In these scenarios treadmill ratings can act as guiding tools in your decision making process. Just because a product has received rave reviews or top ratings, you should not feel forced into buying that gadget. Ultimately it is your own choice, demand and requirement that matter. But to get an initial impression and to shortlist an initial bunch, these treadmill ratings undoubtedly are beneficial.

Using the customer reviews posted for a product, you can weigh the pros and the cons of that product easily.

It is the mindset of the manufacturers to amplify the features of their product so that they could create an air of excitement around it. This is a marketing strategy adapted by most of them. Thus it is of importance that we get the reviews of the consumers on the product features, after sales service, etc.

The treadmill ratings also provide an elaborate description of the gadget features like the heart-rate monitor or computerized fitness regimes and levels. Many new and advanced treadmills have been launched which are highly interactive in their functionality and aim to deliver the best results to the users. Another prime source of treadmill ratings are the various fitness magazines available.

The ratings which are present in these magazines for the various treadmills concentrate on a specific machine and perform a comparison of that with other models in the same price bracket or with those models having similar characteristics.

To take an informed decision on your purchase, you need to be aware of the various choices available, their features and such information can be easily gathered from these magazines. However you need to make sure of the fact that the information is based on the tests performed and not just based on the features listed.

The consumer ratings of the various treadmills give you clarity in your decision making process. You can determine the models that might be suitable for you. Another valuable info that is got is the heads-up of the various problems that occur in the different models and brands.

However, you need to read all these very rationally as treadmill ratings pertaining to a specific brand in that company’s website would be favorable and biased. Hence, various independent websites need to be referred which are not affiliated to or biased in favor of a certain store or brand.

<script type="text/javascript"

Choosing the best home treadmill is sometimes overwhelming as you sift through the different types, upgraded models, and brand name sales. Very often, people get bogged down in all the extras a treadmill offers them that they may the fact that the treadmill doesn’t come with the basic necessities of a worthwhile unit.

By knowing the 4 basic essentials of a quality home treadmill, you’ll be able to quickly sift through the treadmill deals and choose the best home treadmill for you.

The 4 things that every treadmill must have are:

#1 – Sturdy, Well Built Motor

As the motor is the most pricey component of the treadmill to mend, a good motor is essential to your treadmill. Search forTry to find at least a motor with 2.0 horsepower, though higher horsepower is more preferable.

Take into account that a 1.5 HP motor must work doubly as hard as a 3.0 HP motor – so it will burn out long before the 3.0 HP motor.

As well, not all motors are created with first-rate parts. Search for a superior brand name and an extended motor warranty to give you an idea as to the quality of the motor.

#2 – Excellent Floor Padding

There’s not enough said about cushioning and it is so important in a home treadmill. A good padding system protects all of the parts of your body. A bad support system can lead to injury and pain. I know of this woman who got an inexpensive brand of treadmill and then used it. After 6 months, she had injured her hips so badly that it hurt her to just walk on the treadmill. You’ll want to avoid anything like that from happening!

Make certain that your treadmill has an excellent cushioning system – particularly if you want to use if for running!

#3 – Extensive Warranty

You must safeguard your investment, so a solid treadmill warranty is a must. A great treadmill warranty will encompass the frame for at least 30 years, the motor for no less than 5 years and other components and labor for around 1 year. Anything above that, and you’ve got a great warranty.

But a warranty isn’t just to protect your investment – a good warranty lets you know about the quality of the treadmill parts.

Treadmill manufacturers do not add in warranties because they think they’ll need to repair the treadmill during that time frame. They know that they WON’T need to fix them during that time frame if the quality of pieces used are high. So, if you find a treadmill that has a 10 year motor warranty, you should be confident it’s a quality built motor. If the motor warranty is only 90 days however…that tells you something.

#4 – Reputable Brand Name

A number of brand names are well known for producing an excellent quality home treadmill. Some brand names might be well-known but they don’t necessarily have a good reputation.

Choose a treadmill that has a reputable, trusted brand name. If you’re unsure about which brands are the best, you can find review online. You’ll be able to notice a trend where certain brand names show up often. These names are the most reputable treadmill companies.

So these are 4 basic must-haves of a good home treadmill:

- Sturdy, Durable Motor – Superior Foot Support – Complete Warranty – Quality Brand Name

With this in mind, you will be able to quickly search through treadmills to find the perfect one for you.

If you watch closely, you’ll see that most exercises enthusiasts are using strapless heart rate monitors when working out. This is because this little gizmo basically gives you information about your progress in the routine. As the name suggests, it monitors your heart rate and sometimes may even go further. The length of time you have been working out under the heart rate zone as well as the amount of calories you have burned are only some of the things that a strapless heart rate monitor will show you. However, one strapless heart rate monitor isn’t the same as another. When choosing a strapless heart rate monitor, you will have to go over a few things. Budget aside, here are some of the things you might want to think about.

Function
Are you a novice in the exercise field or an athlete in training? The strapless heart monitor you use will have to fit your needs. Novices will have to start slow, meaning you’ll be targeting your heart rate. For the athletes, they would want more since they’ll be working on maintaining a particular target heart rate zone. Thus, you have ones that would tell you exactly how long you’ve been going inside your target zone. However, if you’re new in the field, then I suggest that you first visit a physician for check up. Those who aim to lose weight should go for a strapless heart rate monitor that shows the amount of calorie burned. Also, there are ones that offer multiple functions for those who target overall health.

User-friendly
If you’re one of those people who is not really techno-friendly or perhaps you don’t want to be bothered with technicalities during workout, then you’re looking for an easy-to-use strapless heart rate monitor. You’ll find that the gadgets that have the least functions will be the ones easy to manipulate. Hence, if your gizmo gives you your heart rate, calories burned, heart target zone, etc, then expect something that would require you to push more than one button. And for those who want to increase their efficiency, try looking for strapless heart rate monitors that have bigger buttons for added accuracy.

Display
Reading the display on your strapless heart monitor can be a problem when working out, to minimize this, target models that can give you bold readings. This way, you won’t have to shift priorities, letting you continue on your exercise effortlessly.

Another thing you might take into consideration is the style of the gadget. Although fashion is not at the top of your list when working out, you don’t want a big bulky heart rate monitor that would probably ruin your exercise routine. There are different models that are designed as watches, rings or stopwatches. Choose one that you think would suit you best. Some popular brands include the Mio Heart Rate Monitor, Reebok and Timex.

A heart rate monitor is fast becoming an exercise “must-have”. More so now that strapless models have been invented.

I suggest you go through different reviews before settling for one. However, keep in mind the abovementioned factors and add in a few of your own for a full purchase satisfaction.

Boredom can be a real exercise killer. Instead of setting aside time to do exercise, do the opposite by squeezing exercise into what you’re already doing. Here are some tips for pimping up your workouts.

Resistance Bands

Keep a set of Bodylastics resistance bands next to your couch or recliner while you watch TV. During commercial break get up and do some reps. Out of a 1-hour show, about 17 minutes of it is commercials. By the time a show is over, you’ll have worked out your entire body. Each set comes with a manual of over 140 top gym exercises. Plus, you can get the optional circuit training DVD. Hook up a portable DVD player or laptop with the DVD queued up. When the commercial comes on, spark up the DVD and start working out.

Treadmill, Elliptical, Stationary Bike

If you’re doing work on your laptop, strap it onto a treadmill, elliptical, or stationary bike with a SurfShelf. It allows you to use a laptop or portable DVD player on any other piece of exercise equipment that has a console. I use it to catch up on old episodes of Lost and NCIS. I also like to read all the e-book downloads I have. When your concentration is focused on the laptop, you forget you’re walking. Before you know it you’ve already gone a mile or more.

Dumbells

Just like keeping some exercise bands close at hand while watching TV, you can do the same thing with dumbbells to get some resistance exercise. You can go with a single set of dumbbells or the super cool adjustable SelectTech™ ones from Bowflex®. With just the turn of a dial you can automatically change the resistance without fiddling around with weight plates.

Free Online Exercise

As of November 30, 2009, Blake Kassel, the creator and owner of the Bodylastics resistance bands, is conducting live resistance bands workouts online…for free. He could easily turn it into a members only site and charge an access fee, but he’s not. In fact, while I’m sitting here typing this, he’s online right now. Man, what a workout! The site will soon have live online workout programs for women, teens, and I can’t wait to see this one, a show for the kids on Saturday and Sunday mornings. If you miss any of the shows, they’ll be recorded so you can watch them at a later time. What a value!

…but my SurfShelf is so delightful.

I am the biggest wuss when it comes to being out in the cold. That may sound a little strange coming from someone who grew up in Montana. As a kid my brothers and I enjoyed ice skating, sledding, and our favorite winter pastime, damming up the melt water running down the hill behind our house. We’d build massive snow damns and wait for the water to fill them up. When it reached the top we’d bust open the damn and watch the river of water rush down the street. Sometimes we didn’t bust the damns up enough and they froze, hi-centering cars trying to drive through the alley. I’m sure the neighbors hated us.

But now that I live in a sunny part of California, I’d die if I had to endure a Montana winter. It was bad enough the last few nights dipping into the 20’s. I can hear some of you laughing and saying, “You think 20 is cold?” I know, I know. My very last Montana winter dipped down to -40 in 1975.

So here I am sitting in front of the computer like I do all the ding dong day. I working on my blogs and thinking to myself, I really, REALLY need to get out and walk. But, it’s 45 out and that’s just way too cold for me. So I printed out a techy 14-page document I wanted to read and headed out to the other room to read on the treadmill.

That didn’t work out so hot. I was holding the report in my hand and couldn’t keep it still enough to read. So I put my SurfShelf in place and laid the document on it. Normally, the SurfShelf is intended to be a laptop or portable DVD holder, but it worked just fine for reading. Before I knew it, 23 minutes had gone by and thats 23 minutes worth of exercise I wouldn’t have done if it wasn’t for my SurfShelf.

If you have a treadmill or any other piece of exercise equipment that has console on it, get yourself a SurfShelf and get some work done while you walk.

Treadmill instructions are always the last thing you think about when you open up your new treadmill. Hey, it’s new so why do you need the instructions? Well, it's to help making the setup a little easier and gives you insight into what options are available to you on your new machine. Once you're treadmill is setup, read through the whole manual and make sure you have a good idea of what your machine can do and what you need to know to get the most out of it. Take note of the regular maintenance schedules and know the best maintenance practices and requirements so your treadmill has a long problem free life.

But what’s even more important than following and reading your treadmill instructions when you buy your new treadmill, is making sure you keep them in a safe place when you’re done with them. Usually, you'll go years without having to need your manual but it's that time when you need it to replace key parts that it pays for itself. Replacing a worn belt is fairly easy when you can follow a step by step procedure, but trying to figure it out yourself can cost you time and some serious cash. One wrong move and you might ruin something else that will increase your cost. You can also have a professional do it but you’re paying a heavy price even before they replace any parts.

You probably keep all your tax returns and home mortgage documents in a specific folder and in a place you know where to find whatever you need. It makes perfect sense to keep another folder with all the purchases you make, from appliances to electronics. These documents can not only help you run your treadmill properly, repair them correctly but they might also be required for your to take advantage of your manufacturers warranty.

If you find yourself searching unsuccessfully for your treadmill instructions or manuals, there is some hope. A great resource you can use to find instruction manuals for many makes and models of treadmills is ManualsOnline.com and especially for a wide avriety of treadmill manuals, fitness.manualsonline.com/manuals/device/treadmill.html.

All you have to do is go to the URL and type in the make and model of your treadmill and it will provide results for your query. You also have the ability to click the link next to your specific make and it will display all models available and their manuals.

A quality treadmill cost a decent amount of money, by following the manual and caring for your machine as outlined and recommended within the treadmill instructions, you'll protect your investment. Doing so will save you a whack of cash, time and even minimize the training downtime created by damaged equipment. A broken treadmill will not only stop your training but it will become a nusence in your everyday life. But it can all be avoided by following your manuals and keeping your treadmill instructions in a safe place with all your other important documents. I hope these treadmill tips help you out!

Not like Commercial Treadmills, there are so many Home Treadmill brands and they all look alike for the outsiders. It will make them confuse how to choose a best Home Treadmill for their workout routine. So the following I will give you a quick guide how to choose them for your best home treadmill.

First, avoid everything from health and fitness icon. They are the manufacturers of the treadmills which you will find at the place like “Sears”. The exercise treadmills they sell tend to be a lower end quality. The treadmills they sell seem to have specs too good to be true for the cost. A small motor with high rpm will give them perceived higher power (but the actually it does not) Mostly of the motors rated under 1.5 HP. A small motor should not be powering a full size of Treadmill! There are better treadmills out there, even at the more affordable price. The icon has tempts the unlearned customer.

The first important thing when you buy a treadmill is make sure the motor is rated with “Continuous Duty” Any sales person might tell you that is a common home circuit (120 volt/15 amps) will let you run about 2.5 HP motor. Any motor larger than that is a waste of money. Technically it is true, but the larger motor will tend to last longer since they are not running at the higher rpm as a small motor. The bigger motor will running the smoother ride. A larger motor will allow you run on the treadmill without any slipping.

The second, you have to check the size of the treadmill’s rollers. The bigger roller and the longer belt, then will last and better running experience you can get.

The third, warranty. Like others, the longer warranty then the more piece of mind you will get. Five years part warranty on spirit Treadmills for example, is one of the best businesses. More faith a manufacturer has in its product, more faith we have in the product.

The Fourth is the stability and weight of the treadmill. The heavier of the treadmill then the longer it will last. The deck and the tread are most problems will happen for the treadmills. While he friction from the running build up between the tread and the deck, the problem will begins. Stick with four ply belts will help to reduce the friction, and better choose the treadmills with reversible, phenolic wax coated deck. Reversible decks will let you flip over your running surface to use opposite side while the original wears down.

The fifth is programs. If the treadmill has 20 programs, it’s great, but you will rarely use them. Most user only wind up using 3 or 4 programs. Don’t be fooled by this. If you do heart rate workout, then the heart rate control is good to be use, if not, it’s just an extra which you will never use.

The Sixth is speed and incline. Most treadmills can go up about 10 mi per hour and have a 10 degree incline. Don’t let speed and incline become a deciding factor for choosing a treadmill without you are doing a lot of high speed or high incline training. If these feature are manual just move it. The electrical controlled speed and incline are the way to go.

The seventh is shock absorption. You have to make sure that you are not running on a hard surface. If you feel like running on the concrete, move on. If the deck is bouncy, or if the deck moves from side to side, move on. You have to find the deck which feel good, with just give a little to no lateral motion.

The Eighth and the final is Price. Of course when you buy a treadmill you have to consider the price. You can only get what you can pay. They are decent treadmills and some are downright great at just about every price point. Do not despair; there are good treadmills out there you can get.

Smooth Fitness has launched another addition to its growing line of fitness machines and this Smooth 6.75 treadmill review aims to discover what’s there to be excited (or not) about this new treadmill. When it was introduced in November 2009, the 6.75 was said to be replacing the Smooth 6.45. So what has changed and what has not? Let’s take a closer look at the basic specs as well as the new features that this latest model has to offer.

A spin-off from the 6.45

For those who are using the Smooth 6.45, I’m sure you have found little to complain about in this treadmill. It is a powerful, solid machine that also bears the reliability that Smooth Fitness equipments are known to have. Well, if you liked the 6.45, then you’re bound to like the Smooth 6.75 even better.

As far as basic specs are concerned, the Smooth 6.75 retains the 20 by 60 inches walking surface which should already be ample space for most users, the quiet 3.0 HP continuous duty motor, the top speed of 12 mph, and a maximum incline of 15. As with its predecessor, the 6.75 can also hold a user up to 350 lbs, and is equipped with heart rate control and hand pulse grips.

So what’s new with the 6.75?

At this point in the Smooth 6.75 treadmill review, you must be wondering already why Smooth Fitness even bothered to introduce a new machine that doesn’t seem to be any different from the original model. But the 6.75 has more to offer. The biggest changes worth noting are the dual-stage, soft-drop folding feature, and the deluxe sound system. This treadmill also got a slight size and weight reduction from the older model, so it’s now easier to fold and store.

Other upgrades that this treadmill offers are the oversized, dual-color LCD display, hand rail toggle switches for easier adjusting of the speed and incline, and a two-speed fan.

Is it worth the price?

No Smooth 6.75 treadmill review would be complete without talking about its cost. With this equipment priced at a steep 1,799 dollars, I’d be the first to acknowledge that you’d still be able to get a treadmill at a lower price that could serve you just as well. But keep in mind that with feature-rich machines such as the Smooth 6.75, you are paying for not only the equipment itself, but also from the superb running experience you get.

And just like most Smooth Fitness treadmills, the 6.75 also comes with a product warranty that other treadmill manufacturers would find hard to match – lifetime warranty for frame and motor, 5 years for electronic parts, and 2 years for labor.

Final thoughts

At this point (Nov 2009), the Smooth 6.75 treadmill has only been introduced for only a few weeks so it’s hard to find even a single feedback from an owner or user of the treadmill. And this is perhaps the only obvious setback, if you can call it that, I can find with this machine. But features-wise though, the 6.75 looks to be another powerful and reliable treadmill the likes of which you can expect from Smooth Fitness. The bottom line of this Smooth 6.75 treadmill review is that while this equipment may be on the pricey side, it’s worth it.
