Treadmills remain as popular as ever and are still the primary piece of exercise equipment in many home gyms. When you use a treadmill, you can typically set it for walking, jogging or running. Nowadays, many models also have a setting for climbing hills, which is very effective if you want to burn even more calories during each workout.

Treadmills designed for home use are usually made to accommodate less usage and lower weight than their counterparts in commercial gyms. This means that if you are contemplating buying a treadmill for your home gym, you will want to focus your attention on shopping for treadmills that are designed for home use, which also tend to be significantly less costly than those designed for commercial gym use.

The specific health benefits of working out on a treadmill are actually quite numerous. For instance, one of the biggest health benefits of getting a cardio workout on a treadmill is that it helps you burn as many calories as you would burn doing the equivalent workout outdoors. In other words, if the weather is not good, but you still want to get in a good, hard run, you can get the same intensity level, and you can burn the same number of calories by working out on your treadmill as you can from going on a serious run outdoors.

But you won’t only be burning a high number of calories when you go on a good, hard, intense run on your treadmill. You will also be promoting strong bone health and strong joint health, steadily improving your overall cardiovascular condition, decreasing your stress level and boosting your energy level quite substantially. (Of course, if your doctor advises you to avoid high impact exercise, then you may prefer to get an elliptical machine, which is much lower impact.)

Many of the treadmills currently on the market can be operated both manually and by computer. Whether or not you prefer to set your own treadmill by hand or by using one of the computerized settings is completely up to you, of course. Either way, you will still get an outstanding workout.

Once you make the decision to purchase a treadmill for your home gym, the most important thing is to use it on a regular basis in order to reap all of the health benefits described in this article. If you don’t struggle with motivational issues, that’s great. You will probably use it almost every day. If motivation is a problem for you, do whatever it takes to keep holding yourself accountable so that you can achieve both your short term and long term fitness goals.
